Merchant House is thought to be one of the oldest surviving buildings in Launceston; it sits in a prominent location on the edge of the Square having been a backdrop to events that have happened in the town for nearly 500 years. Grade 2* listed, the building has been on the Historic England and Cornwall Buildings group “Buildings at Risk” register for many many years. Currently being restored, it has slowly revealed stunning fireplaces, plaster ceilings, blocked doorways and substantial oak floorboards. This is truly one of Launceston greatest buildings.
We are thrilled to be using 11a Merchant House as the Causley Bookshop, offering not only a good selection of Causley books, new and used, but also a regularly new selection of second hand books and greeting cards. The bookshop also features a mini-exhibition with works by artists ‘inspired by Causley’, as well as a special notebook to mark down your ‘living memories of Causley’, if in the past you have been lucky enough to meet Launceston’s poet.
Do stop by, take a look at some of Causley’s books, chat to our team and explore the work that we do!
