On Tuesday 5th November, The Charles Causley Trust with the National Poetry Library hosted a commemorative event to celebrate the launch of The Drifted Stream, a poignant collection of works reflecting on the poetic legacy of Charles Causley as well as writings inspired by Charles’s work. This publication marks 21 years since Causley’s death and is the first publication in a decade connected to him.
The evening was filled with inspiring words from our speakers. The Trust’s director Nikky Nuttall and Chair David Devanny are both contributors to The Drifted Stream publication and excitingly announced the Trust’s inaugural Launceston Poetry Festival scheduled for 2025.
Poets Tommy Sissons, Rachel Piercey and Sue Wallace-Shaddad read extracts from their work with each having spent time at Charles Causley’s beloved Launceston home, Cyprus Well, for artistic residencies.
We were also joined by winners of the 2024 Causley Trust International Poetry Competition Anastasia Taylor-Lind and Ozge Gozturk who read the poetry that earnt them their success.
Tash Walker was another speaker who engaged the audience with their work in LGBTQIA+ communities and how Charles Causley has influenced this.
Profits from the sale of The Drifted Stream helps the Causley Trust to continue to support artists and writers with Charles’s legacy in mind, and to promote the creative arts in special events like our Launceston Poetry Festival.
