Forgetful Gran, by Eve Clark
June 14, 2023
My brain is working very well.
But my grandma’s is very slow.
She remembers old thoughts.
Her dad leaving to fight in the war.
Going on holiday to a beach for the first time,
sitting on a soft gentle donkey,
listening to the Punch and Judy show.
But she can’t remember to take her medicine,
or make her bed,
or turn off the tap.
I try to help her but she always forgets the advice I give.
Sometimes when I visit she jumps up in fright because she doesn’t know who I am.
But I explain.
Then she forgets again.
I think she’s lost her brain.
But I know it’s just she’s very old.
Oh how she wants to be young like me,
riding on the donkey.
At least she has that memory.
