November’s Call For Content: Children’s Writing
October 24, 2022
Calling all writers! Got any wonderful Blyton-esque tales burning a hole in your notepad? Any ballads for kids you’ve been longing to revive from the digital trash bin?
As you may well know, Charles Causley is well known for his many poems for children. A schoolteacher of 35 years, Causley wrote many poems for young people to enjoy. Our favourite poet was skilled in adopting an unpatronizing tone towards children, simultaneously making poetry that was both joyous and complicated. We’re inviting you to do the same.
This month at The Maker, we’re seeking poetry and prose written for children.
Some pointers before you begin…
- Try to make sure your work has a satisfactory ending, as many children are drawn to conclusive endings.
- If writing poetry, utilise rhyming patterns to create to ‘sing-songy’ quality seen in much of Causley’s poetry. Traditional forms (ballads, sonnets, etc) always work wonders, too.
- Use uncomplicated language to ensure all can access your wonderful writing.
All submissions must be emailed to themaker@causleytrust.org as a word document or PDF, along with a brief bio of yourself and your writing/professional/education background. Submissions close on the 21st November 2022.
Happy writing!
