Summer of Literature 2022: Check out what is in store for June-August

April 29, 2022

Exciting things are happening this summer at The Maker! We have been working hard to put together a course of literary content, running from June to July, with different focuses explored each month. We’re calling it our Summer of Literature.

See below for a rough timeline of events for the course, as well as teasers of what is to come. As always, The Maker is a collaborative literary force and welcomes ideas, input and assistance from any and all literary lovers who wish to have their say, so should you have anything to bring to us then please contact either myself or Kate. We’ll be plesased to hear from you.

June: Flash Fiction

The focus for June will be Flash Fiction. We will be spending the month discussing our favourite short fiction pieces, ranging from 10 words to 1,000, as well as publishing some of our own pieces from the excellent submissions we receive from writers of all ages, backgrounds and specialities across the South West.

July: Poetry

Our July course has been designed as the perfect double-feature to our wonderful annual Festival. We plan to report live from the festival with daily articles about events. Throughout the month, we will also be publishing brand new poetry, chosen from our excellent submissions pool and showcasing the work of amazing poets, both local and national.

August: The Arts (Film & art)

For the final month of the series, we will be widening our scope to encompass more of the arts and culture of the South West. We will be featuring work—inspired by literature and the wonders of summer— by some wonderful commissioned artists. This month will be about a celebration of the Arts generally, with Causley’s work as its inspiration throughout. We hope to include an article written by a Trustee, as well as some fun Film Reviews of movies based on novels and plays, rounding out our Summer of Literature with a bang!
