Our 2023 Young People’s Poetry Competition, with head judge David Devanny, is now open for entries! This year’s theme will be MEMORY, a topic which particularly resonates with the Causley Trust this year as we mark 20 years since Charles Causley’s passing in 2003.
Our 2023 competition is supported by Falmouth University.
In celebration of the work of the Cornish poet Charles Causley, our annual Young People’s Poetry Competition aims to encourage and enable young writers to have a go at writing poetry themselves. Charles wrote prolifically for adults and for young people and much of his inspiration came from what was going on around him in his home town of Launceston in Cornwall.
This year’s theme is ‘Memory,’ referencing the 20th anniversary of Causley’s death this year. The competition is open to all young people aged between 5 and 18 years old who live anywhere in the UK and is free to enter. You can enter through your school, as part of a group, or you can enter as an individual.
Poems will be judged by David Devanny and a panel of judges with prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Highly Commended places in each category. This year we will also have an honourable mention for a young poet based in Cornwall. We will present these awards at our 2023 Festival of Arts and Literature – 30 June – 2nd July.
